Apollo Weekly Competition

Each Friday Apollo offers you the chance to win a superb prize. Simply answer the question set each Friday (www.apollo-magazine.com/competitions) and you could win some of the finest art history books reviewed in Apollo.

Thursday, 21st August 2008

Last Friday we offered you the exhibition catalogue to 'Painting Light: the hidden techniques of the Impressionists' at the Palazzo Strozzi, Florence (Skira; 238 pages) - a superb book investigating the painting techniques and tools of the Impressionist artists.

We asked you: What is the title of Monet's work from which the term 'Impressionism' derives?

Answer: Impression, Sunrise

Congratulations to Neil Molyneux, this week's winner, drawn at random from the correct answers.

Our prize this Friday is the accompanying book to the current exhibition at Christ Church Picture Gallery '40 Years of Christ Church Picture Gallery' (edited by Jacqueline Thalman) and reviewed in the September issue of Apollo (available at the end of August) by Apollo Editor Michael Hall. This elegant book explores the history and collections of the Picture Gallery through the contributions of a range of art historians recalling their involvement with the Gallery and selecting a personal choice of drawings for inclusion.

For your chance to win, simply answer the following question:

In what year was the current gallery designed and by whom?

Email your answer to offers@apollomag.com using 'Christ Church' as the subject of your email.

Good luck!
